Our determination to shake up a stagnant industry and our culture of leadership have helped us build our junk hauling franchise nationwide
Building a strong business involves pairing a good idea with great execution. President and Co-Founder Nick Friedman recently shared his experiences building our brand at a University of Tampa Sykes College of Business event, along with John Gainor, the former President and CEO of Dairy Queen. If you’re wondering how our junk hauling franchise can support you as a business owner, you’ll want to hear what he had to say.
Franchisees get the benefit of our experience, proven methods and track record of success to fulfill their own entrepreneurial ambitions with a top-performing junk removal franchise.
Putting a new spin on a proven business
Business success isn’t always about finding or creating something completely new. Sometimes, it’s just about taking a proven business, and doing it better than it’s ever been done before. Building on that solid foundation gives you the confidence to know you’re fulfilling an actual market need, while giving you freedom to experiment, innovate and improve on a stagnant industry.
“We didn’t become the next Facebook or the next Snapchat, we took a very traditional business model – trucks and labor – put a creative brand to it and a great company culture and great service, and that’s allowed us to grow to this level of success,” Friedman said on the show.
Once you’ve identified a market that needs to be shaken up, you then have to decide how you’re going to shake it up. Junk removal and moving are necessities, and that led to the industry treating customers as a captive audience. Quality of service fell by the wayside, but that left an opportunity for the right player to take market share through superior service. That’s what we set out to do.
“It’s a multi-billion dollar industry, and what we’ve always tried to do is figure out how can we be different. With a name like College Hunks, that’s one way to stand out,” says Friedman. “But we also have to back that up with the service experience.”
Growing our junk hauling franchise through leadership
A major part of our success has come from the fact that we never stop improving. Every day, we look for ways to push ourselves harder than the day before. That came from building a culture of leadership at every level of our organization. From our head office to the franchisees to the crews on each truck, we’ve built our company around building leaders.
That’s what led us to franchise the business in the first place. What better way to build a leadership culture than to create opportunities for other leaders and business owners?
“When we first started, our vision was to be a national brand. That’s what we pictured in our minds,” says Friedman. “We didn’t know how to do it, but we knew that was what we could envision this business becoming.”
Thanks to our franchise owners, we’re a brand with a strong presence across more than 250 territories coast-to-coast, and we’re continuing to grow. When everyone in the organization is on the same page and focused on growth, that’s when great things happen.
