At College Hunks, we want to help you get rid of your unwanted items. But that doesn’t mean simply throwing them away. In many cases, we are able to donate gently-used items to local charities.
College Hunks works closely with a number of charitable groups, including Goodwill and Habitat for Humanity Restore, to help gently-used items find a second home. We collect a wide range of items for donation, including:

Recycling Facilities
While we strive to find a second home for items that remain in good condition, that’s only possible for certain items. So, what happens to junk that can’t be donated?
At College Hunks, we promise to dispose of junk pick up items in the most eco-friendly manner possible. For items made out of plastics, glass, metal, paper, or textiles, that usually means recycling. We will sort through your items to identify and separate recyclable materials. After that, we’ll make sure that these items reach the proper recycling facilities.

Specialty Processing
Some of the items collected during your junk pick up may require specialty processing or disposal. This most often occurs with electronic appliances and appliances that contain refrigerants. These items typically contain a mix of recyclable and hazardous materials, which means that they need to be processed in specialty recycling centers.
To ensure the safe disposal of these items, College Hunks brings them to EPA-certified processing centers. These items are carefully broken down and parted out. Recyclable materials are then sent out for re-use, while hazardous materials are contained and disposed of in the most eco-friendly possible manner.

The Last Resort...
At College Hunks, we do our utmost to reduce landfill usage. In fact, more than two-thirds of the waste that we collect is donated, recycled, or handled by EPA-certified processing centers.
Despite our best efforts, these solutions aren’t possible for all junk pick up items. Donation centers will only accept certain types of items, and they won’t take badly worn or damaged pieces. Likewise, recycling and specialty processing centers will only accept certain materials.
This means that some of the waste that we collect inevitably ends up in landfills. However, this only happens in cases where we cannot use a more eco-friendly disposal method.
