College Hunks Hauling Junk Gears Up To Celebrate 10th Anniversary
From a single truck, the College Hunks Hauling Junk moving and junk removal brand has grown to cover the United States, and we’re only getting started
A decade ago, Omar Soliman and Nick Friedman had a business plan, a beat-up cargo van and a vision for College Hunks Hauling Junk. Now, after 10 years’ worth of television appearances, best-of lists and strong nationwide growth, they look to triple franchise locations and quadruple system-wide revenues in the next three years.
“We are at a tipping point as a company, and 2015 will be the most pivotal year in our history,” says co-founder and CEO Omar Soliman. “No overnight success actually happens overnight, and the success of College Hunks is a testament to our amazing franchise partners and our team members across the country. The exciting part is that we will experience more growth in the next three years than we did in our first 10!”
A decade in, unparalleled success
College Hunks Hauling Junk’s orange-and-green trucks are a far cry from old “No. 1,” the beat-up panel truck that started the fleet.
College Hunks Hauling Junk now has more than 1,000 employees around the country. In the first two months of 2015, we added more new franchise owners than we did in the entire year of 2014, and we are on pace for a record year. In addition to new franchises, the College Hunks brand is seeing sizable same-store sales results: From 2011 to 2013, the company experienced a sizable increase in franchisee revenue, and we are on pace to see a double-digit increase again this year.
College Hunks has grown by partnering with franchise owners that embrace our mission to “Move the World.” We focus on delivering outstanding, collegial service to customers, removing stress from their lives by clearing away junk and providing stress-free moves. College Hunks and its franchise owners also devote efforts to mentoring team members and teaching them business skills that they can use to pursue their own goals — whether that includes opening their own College Hunks franchise, starting another business or using their skills to excel in their chosen careers.
Looking back, planning ahead
These numbers are even more impressive considering that only one-third of startup businesses survive 10 years, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration. And among those survivors, College Hunks Hauling Junk stands out.
We are the fastest-growing junk removal franchise and moving franchise in America, making Entrepreneur magazine’s list of top franchise opportunities for five years in a row. In addition to dozens of franchisees, College Hunks Hauling Junk’s footprint now includes a 12,000-square-foot headquarters in historic Ybor City, Florida, best-in-class “Hunkware” proprietary operations software, and a customer Sales and Loyalty Center that is considered one of the industry’s best.
“Imagine what 2020 will look like,” Omar says.
