5 Tips for Getting Your Home Ready for the Holidays!
A lot of people are eager to throw decorations up all over the house, even before Thanksgiving. Don’t put the cart before the turkey. Instead, follow these five tips to get your home ready for December and still maintain your sanity for St. Nick!
1. Lights. Santa. Action!
First thing’s first. If you plan on hanging lights on the outside of your house, get to it now before it gets any colder. After all, it’s a lot easier to untangle that knotted ball of bulbs and aggravation and hang the lights up when your fingers aren’t frozen into c-shaped reindeer hooves.
2. The Furniture
There are a lot of reasons people rearrange furniture during the holidays. Some need extra space in the dining room to host parties. Others have more kids than Brad and Angelina and need a lot of space around the tree. Whatever your situation, start with the furniture before you put up any decorations so that you don’t accidentally damage that glass, glam rock colored Rudolph figurine in the process.
Now that you’ve cleared some space, set up the tree. Whether it’s real or real plastic, getting the tree in position can often cause more controversy in a household than Fifty Shades of Grey. Try to relax and remember it’ll all be worth it once you’ve strewn some holiday cheer all over that big green bad boy. Pro tip: Don’t decorate it just yet. We’ll get to that in a minute.
4. Biggie to Smalls
Once the tree is in place, continue the large-to-small workflow by setting up any larger decorations first and the smaller ones second. That way, you won’t end up overcrowding any one spot in the home with an abundance of decorations while other areas go largely undecorated.
5. The Final, Finishing, Festive Flurry of Fun
Now that every other detail is taken care of, sit on the couch. Seriously, just sit there. Drink some coffee or hot chocolate and relax. What’s that? The tree is still as naked as Frosty the Snowman without his old silk hat? It’s not going to decorate itself? Of course it’s not! That’s what the kids are for! Call them into the room and let them go nuts with the box of ornaments! All you have to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the family tradition!
